Delaware’s Alicia Chu was named Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2024 during the 67th National Finals.
Alicia is a graduate of Archmere Academy. Her academic honors include being named a National Merit Scholar; National Honor Society, French NHS, and Science NHS.
Outside of the classroom, Alicia is passionate about opera-style singing, Mock Trial, as well as Youth & Government, which she has been doing since 8th grade.
Aside from those passions, the initiative Alicia devotes a lot of her time to is menstrual equity. She helps organize fundraisers for period products and hopes to research the connection between a woman’s cycle and her ability to sing.
In the fall, Alicia will attend Harvard University, where she will major in Social Studies. She then hopes to attain a dual-degree with the New England Conservatory to gain her Master’s in Voice & Opera.
With $44,000 in total cash scholarships and a gold medallion, Alicia will represent the Class of 2024 as Distinguished Young Woman of America for this year.
Fun Facts
• Alicia loves visiting senior centers in her spare time to perform classical music for the residents.
• She is most excited about trying new things and experiences in college - especially joining the ballroom dance team, traveling, and figuring out her passions.
• When asked what she indulges in, she says she loves watching the hit show “Suits” and snacking on the Chili & Lime-Flavored Rolled Corn Tortilla Chips from Trader Joe’s
• Little known fact about Alicia? She was a child actor! Though she’s a bit shy about it now, she says it was a fun opportunity to have when she was younger.
• When asked who inspires her, Alicia says her “support system.” Having mentors to look up to through the entire DYW process helped her gain insight and prepare for this new role.
